How we are reducing IGE levels

Now I have read a lot of articles and studies on how IGE levels have been reduced.   Just some of the things I've found that have been documented in scientific studies to reduce IGE levels are:

whey (30% decrease in a month)
deep sea water (vague, but interesting)
sodium ascorbate 1 gram daily (initially dropped IGE levels, fluctuated, then rose slightly over initial levels)
spirulina (there is a study on the internet - but it's published mainly on producer's website.)
raw dairy
camel milk (watch Dr Michael Mandl session - I believe that is where IGE levels are discussed)
herbs (there are varying studies and stories - from Ayurveda through Traditional Chinese Medicine).  Here is an interesting article covering several TCM herbal mixtures.
deep needle acupuncture (searching for article I read awhile ago)

So, as I posted earlier, we saw our allergist a couple weeks back.  Since then the blood results came in and my son's IGE levels have declined from 1722 to 1059 - a 36% decrease since our last blood draw 6 months prior.  This is the first such a drop to date without steroids.  His levels dropped somewhat about 2 years ago - but this was following 2 doses of steroids (1 injection for a failed food challenge and 1 oral for an asthma attack).  So we are definitely moving in the right direction with our present protocol.  We will retest in 6 months and hope to see the healing trend continue.

If you've found studies/ideas/suggestions for reducing IGE levels please post.

  1. Hi Denise: Thanks for this post. I'm going to copy these to my tips for Job's syndrome post, to share with others.

Glad to hear that your son's IgE levels are decreasing. That's great news!

We are happy with our results so far and hope to continue the positive changes. If you try anything please share results.

    2. My daughter just went through a screening process to be in a study for kids with multiple food allergies. The goal is to use Xolair (which binds IgE) in helping desensitizing kids to multiple foods. Her major allergies are peanut, dairy, and eggs. Unfortunately, her total IgE was 2055 which is too high to be in the study. The cutoff is 2000. I am now researching ways to reduce her IgE level with the hopes that she can be retested in a few months and her level will be within the parameters for the study. Which were the primary ways you were able to reduce the IgE levels?

  3. Hi Alok -

Are you suffering from allergies or possibly a parasite infection?
As you know, I'm not a doctor - but things that we've found reduce our IgE levels have been -
vitamin C, alpha lipoic acid, and certain probiotics.

The question that you need to ask yourself is why is your IgE elevated? Have you been to a doctor to rule out things like parasites?

When we used this vitamin C daily - http://amzn.to/1evK9ok - over a period of 6 months, it reduced the IgE levels by 30%. However after the first 6 months we hit a plateau. Lately our focus has been using ALA and probiotics that I found have studies backing them up to lower IgE or raise IFN-gamma. We continue to pulse on and off the vitamin C, but don't use it daily (my son does not like the taste).

If you go to this page on my site - you'll see the exact protocol that we are currently on - http://www.healinghacker.com/reducing-ige-levels-for-food-allergy-and-asthma/

I hope this helps. Please let me know what efforts you pursue and what effects they have (just for learning purposes).

    Best,
    Denise

    1. Hi,

I'm sorry that I did not reply earlier. I've moved most of my activity to
      www.healinghacker.com.

At any rate, the vitamin C that I cite is safe for us to consume and we have similar allergies (dairy, egg, nuts, certain seafood).

    1. Hi Anil,
Apologies for not responding sooner - again, I've moved most of my activity to www.healinghacker.com.

However, in response to your question - I am not a doctor. I am simply lookin for ways to help my family and sharing. That being said, I would ask myself (if I were you) - what is the cause? Have you always had a higher IgE? Do you have allergies? Have you been checked for parasites? (which cause elevated IgE). Have you been exposed to a toxin recently? What threw your immune system out of whack - you need to figure it out - so that you can take the best course of action.

Most of what I discuss assumes allergy induced elevated IgE - which of course no one can give you a cause for - but it's not elevated due to parasites, for example.

      Hope that helps.
      Best,
      Denise

  6. Denise, According to Karen Hurd, increasing your intake of soluble fiber (by consuming small amounts of legumes on frequent basis) will reduce the allergens in your bile, and subsequently lower your allergic response. Over the past 6 months, my son's IgE level for almonds dropped by ~75%. Just thought you may be interested in checking this approach out. Michele

    1. Hi Michele,
Thank you for the info - that's amazing. When you say a small amount of legumes on frequent basis - what exactly is dosage and frequency?
      Thanks

  10. Hello Denise,

Thanks for this good article. I found some new ideas to incorporate into my life.

Allow me to give a backdrop of myself. I had previously checked my IgE levels two years back as I was suffering from recurrent eczema and dry skin issues since 2001, and results from that was around 2100. I didn't really make an effort for a drastic change after that, even though my doctor advised me to do so.

And then last month happens. I go to another doctor to check my status, and from the resultant tests, I find that my IgE levels shot up to 13,500. That's insane.

Keeping the scare as the motivation factor, I decided to make alterations in my lifestyle once and for all. I have made some changes like to avoid all sorts of meat except fish from my diet, avoid nuts, dairy, shellfish, fried, oily and spicy snacks and food. Alongside that, I stopped using perfumed soaps, perfumes, deodorants, creams, shampoos. All of them. And I started eating more fresh, (possibly available and affordable) organic fruits and vegetables. I used to take a lot of antiobiotics, and steroids as well. I have routed myself towards Homeopathy which seems to be working much better than I expected. It's giving me a lot of relief from my terribly itchy and dry skin.

I will keep you posted about this here over time if and when I notice changes.
And like I previously mentioned, your article has given me a few tips to introduce into my routine. Like deep sea water; I found that when I go to the beach once a month, the relief and feel-good I get there, just by facing the winds, is levels above anything else that I would've tried in that month. Soaking myself in the water even helps a lot too.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences. Maybe I should start off a blog regarding this myself too, to spare you from my rant on your comment wall. Haha. :D

    Take care. :)
